The Department is divided into three branches: the Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Branches. The Parks Branch
is responsible for maintaining 3 community parks, 14 neighborhood parks, 6 ball fields, 3 soccer fields, 7 public restrooms, 9 playground areas, 8 tennis courts, 2 cemeteries, 34 miles of right-of-ways, and mowing and caring for a growing number of civic beautification plantings.
The Recreation Branch
has the responsibility of providing Mission citizens opportunities to participate in leisure activities to improve their health, well being and quality of life. It also provides adult and youth athletic programs, wellness programs, supervised youth activities, community special events, programs for special populations, and assists in tourism development activities.
The Aquatics Branch
operates two pools: Northside and Mayberry Pools. It is responsible for providing public swimming, learn-to-swim classes, fitness classes, lap swimming, advanced swimming and lifesaving classes, swim meets, swim parties, and a variety of swim camps during the year.
Boards
The Department is assisted by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and is actively involved with the Mission Environmental Committee and the Mission Handicapped Advisory Committee. Current Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members are Chairman Luis Ortega and members Rolando Barrera, Chris Voss, Pat Townsend, Sr., Warren Suter, Dimitrio Gaona and Mrs. Becho. The Parks & Recreation Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at noon at the Parks & Recreation Building; the public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Parks and Recreation DirectorMission Statement
The Parks and Recreation Department has the responsibility of developing and maintaining city recreation areas, open space facilities and public resources in the most cost effective manner possible, while striving to preserve and enhance the environment. In addition, the Parks & Rec Department is responsible for graffiti removal and traffic light repair.
